—Regarding revision of the Fiscal 2030 Target of the Refined Oil Industry Voluntary Environmental Action Plan—
At the meeting of members held on October 16, the Japan Oilseed Processors Association revised the Fiscal 2030 Target of the Refined Oil Industry Voluntary Environmental Action Plan (The Commitment to a Low Carbon Society for the vegetable oils and fats manufacturing industry) that had been established in July 2004 in order to contribute to the prevention of global warming, and had been revised in May 2009. The revision was based on Japan’s Intended Nationally Determined Contribution (INDC).

Target business field: Manufacturing of vegetable oil and related businesses Future forecast: (1) Based on the Kyoto Protocol Target Achievement Plan (March 2008), the Association formulated the Refined Oil Industry Voluntary Environmental Action Plan in May 2009 with the average of the period from fiscal 2008 to 2012 used as the target fiscal year. (2) Although the planning period has ended, for fiscal 2013 and beyond, the Association decided to follow this target level for the time being (fiscal 2020 target). (October 2013) (3) In November 2014, the Association decided to extend this target level until fiscal 2030. (4) Furthermore, the Association decided to change this level to the level of the Japan’s Intended Nationally Determined Contribution (INDC). (October 2018) Benchmark year: Fiscal 2013 100% - 401 million tons (estimate for emissions amount in industrial sector in fiscal 2030)/429 million tons (actual results in industrial sector in benchmark year) ≈ 6.5%(reduction) This change will be applied from fiscal 2019. |
