Comments on Japan’s Genetically Modified Organism Labeling System

7.Conclusion (A labeling system based on DNA contained in products)

A GMO labeling system should be adopted on a scientific basis and implemented in terms of reliability, follow-up verification studies, feasibility, and international consistency. Furthermore, items to be labeled should in principle be applied to products whose genetically modified DNA can be detected.
In addition, we request that the current unintended maximum GMO contamination ratio be maintained because lowering the rate could trigger price hikes and even pose the difficulties of securing sufficient supplies.
